'93 SC2 Cruise schematic???

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Philip Nasadowski, Jan 5, 2005.

  1. Ok, anyone got a schematic/wiring diagram for the cruise setup on a '93
SC2? I'm trying to hack cruise into mine, here's what I've done:

    * Installed the switch on the wwheel, and wiring harness in there
    * Installed the clutch off switch, and adjusted. Oh yeah, and plugged
    it in :)
    * Installed the box to the gas. I plugged that in too ;)
    * Hooked the little cord up to the gas pedal. Cute.

Well, naturally, the darn thing doesn't work. Of course, the Chilton's
doesn't say _anything_ about the cruise, save for a 2 paragraph bluirb
about it being all computerized/electronic, and then giving a
'diagnosis' chart for a vacuum operated system. Grrr. But it's got 3
pages on why cars need emissions systems!!!

I'd try the obvious, i.e. ask the dealer, but I'm sure they'll be oh so
    helpful here, too.

So, anyone got a diagram of the cruise setup that they can scan, and any
    info on it?

FWIW, does the 'cruise' light on the switch thingie come on when the
system's turned 'on', or when the cruise is actually working? The
owner's manual is vague on this :(

It's annoying - I've got seemingly everything hooked up, but still,
    nothing happens :(

I'm curious - is the spiral thingie behind the steering wheel the same
for cruise/non cruise cars? That's becomming a 'target of interest'
    here...

Oh yeah - I checked the fuse (it was already in there!). I'm wondering
if there's one stupid plug I missed, though. So I wanna trace it with
    Mr Meter.

    Thanks! :)

I'll assume it's OEM Saturn parts you've installed after the fact to give it
cruise. I'm told that's what the Saturn dealers do if people decide they
want it later. Maybe the PCM needs to be flashed so it is aware that the
vehicle now has cruise (when it didn't before)?

Otherwise, find a frendly tech at any Saturn dealer. They may give you some
    ideas.

  3. I tried disconnecting the battery. No effect :(

The thing is, I can't tell if it's a plug I missed, if the box is really
getting power, or something SW related is missing, or what.
I'm gonna try that tomorrow. Hopefully someone won't look at me funny :(

Maybe the PCM needs to be flashed so it is aware that the
Flashed, meaning reprogrammed by the dealer with software for the cruise
option (not just reset by disconnecting the power). Don't know if you knew
that's what I meant. A quick phone call to the dealer's service department
should let you know if that might be what it is.
